Well folks, the Bethlehem Catholic football team remains undefeated improving their record to 5-0 after this weekend’s win against cross-town rival Liberty. In the 41-7 victory Tavion Banks accounted for 3 of those touchdowns-1 receiving and 2 rushing. The sophomore is proving his importance to the Golden Hawks lineup of very talented, skill-position players.

With 609 rushing yards on the season, the 5’10 running back is averaging 121.8 yards per game on the ground. And he’s not only strong in the run game, but Banks can catch as well, averaging 23.8 receiving yards per game with 119 so far this year.

His explosiveness on the field is hard to miss from the stands. And that’s something that Banks honed in on this summer while training with Jason Brader at FASST Performance. During the offseason I had the opportunity to visit the facility and watch Banks, along with other athletes, run through a workout. He told me then, “I’m definitely more explosive than I was when I started here.” And that was early in the summer when I saw him. Banks continued to work not only on speed, but gaining size as well the rest of the offseason, and I think it’s safe to say his hard work in the summer has definitely paid off so far this season.

The Golden Hawks look to Easton this weekend as they enter into the tougher part of their schedule that the players call “the gauntlet.” It’ll be a challenge, but they’re certainly up to it. And I know I’m certainly up to see what else Banks has got to show us on the field.
