The Northampton girls volleyball team already made history once this season when they qualified for the EPC tournament, and Tuesday night, the team achieved another important goal. Not only did the Konkrete Kids play in their first-ever District XI tournament match - they won! It’s been a very exciting time for the team, which was really looking forward to the contest. Just being in the tournament and having the chance to face so many great teams has made them even closer – which is great news for head coach Jessica Finlayson as most will return next year.
The K-Kids faced Pocono Mountain West last night for the first time this season, and despite a slow start were able to handle the Panthers fairly easy. According to Finlayson the team didn’t have that great of a warm-up and only having 20 minutes was something they were not used to, but once they started to put everything together they girls played really well. Junior Lindsey Nemeth led the way with 12 kills, 8 digs and an ace. Senior Brooke Rockovits was right there with her, contributing with 10 kills, and 10 digs. But more importantly she brought the team back in the match in both the first and second set with about 12 service points.
The K-Kids move on to face the #2 seed tomorrow in the District XI 4A quarterfinals. They will have to travel to Delaware Valley, a team they do not know anything about, but the key for Northampton is getting back in the gym and improving on the errors they saw from last night’s contest. Whether the team wins or loses tomorrow, they have a lot to be proud of and will only look to build off of this years success!
