Milestones… A word I hear often working in sports. But, milestones are also a huge part of life, in many ways. As an adult it’s easy to take things for granted, however having a baby makes you look at things a lot differently. I recently had my third child in June and already she has reached so many milestones. From holding up her head to most recently rolling over and starting to eat baby food with a spoon. Every time I watch my child do something new it puts a huge smile on my face. I mean think about it, the things we do without thinking twice about, are things that she is just figuring out. One of my favorite milestones at her age (6 months) is the ability to smile and start babbling. Babies tend to eat, sleep, and poop in the beginning, but as they grow they become little people. Trust me, at just 6 months of age they understand a lot! There are so many milestones that are quickly approaching for her like crawling, and walking and talking and I can’t wait to see all of these happen – but I do wish time would slow down.
Having children is such an adventure and it has all been so fun. Even my four-year-old son and two-year-old daughter continue to hit milestones every day. Words become phrases, phrases become sentences, and in my case sentences become songs!
Not to get all sappy on everyone, but the next time you watch someone, or even achieve a milestone of your own take a minute to reflect back on all the milestones that got you there. And if you are a new parent, like me, make sure you soak in each and every step of the way because one day (all too soon) you will be watching your high school or college student achieving a different kind of milestone.
