EPC Boys Volleyball Playoffs Start Tonight….

Anyone who follows the EPC boy’s volleyball teams may be experiencing some déjà vu.  The playoffs tip off tonight and the top four teams just happen to be the same as a year ago.  So let’s take a look at the teams that will be playing tonight at Allen high school.
The number 1 seed will be the Emmaus Green Hornets once again.  The Hornets are 16-0 this season and if you think that is impressive wait for this….. They have NOT lost a set.  I covered the Green Hornets several times this year, and Head Coach Ken Dunkle was not always thrilled with their performance but they were clearly doing something right.  Expect the Hornets to defend their title, and don’t be surprised if they do it in 6 straight sets.
The number 2 seed this year is Whitehall.  The Zephyrs are 13-2 this season, and while they have not yet played their best match they’ve managed to squeeze out the close ones.  One thing I will say about this Zephyr team is if they want a shot at winning a title they are going to have to avoid the lapses that they seem to have so often.  I see Whitehall advancing to the championship as well, which would provide a rematch of last years title game.
Nazareth earned the 3 seed.  Luckily too.  The Blue Eagles, who are 12-4, could have been eliminated if Liberty had won their final season match vs. Freedom, but the Pates held them off.  The Zephyrs swept the Blue Eagles in the regular season (3-0 and 3-1.)  I can’t see things being much different tonight.
Parkland closes out the playoffs as the 4 seed.  The Trojans are an interesting team.  The 12-4 squad boasts several young players and had several question marks coming into the year, however they managed to sneak into the playoffs.  Despite how well they have played this year, one of their worst performances was against the Green Hornets.   Emmaus may have put forth their best outing in that match.  (No surprise as the two are rivals.)  Parkland will have to get through the Green Hornets tonight, but I really cannot see that happening.
Win or lose none of these teams are done playing just yet.  They have each already qualified for Districts and who knows we will probably see a few more rematches!
Good luck to all of the teams!  The first semi-final starts at 5:30.
