If you ask the Emmaus boys volleyball team how they felt about their performance in the EPC semi-final, well you may be surprised to hear (unless you saw the match or read my blog) that they were not pleased with their performance. The team committed an astronomical amount of errors, and lost their first set of the season. Parkland forced them to 5 sets.
That was Monday.
Last night was a completely different story.
The Green Hornets went up against Whitehall in a rematch of last year’s EPC championship; and the outcome was the same. Granted, Whitehall did cut back on the errors. However, Emmaus is ranked number 6 in the state and frankly they just played like it last night. The Green Hornets came out and had fun. They were relaxed and they were focused on the changes they had made from Monday. It never really was a contest as the Green Hornets jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set. That really set the tone for the rest of the night, and in the end the Green Hornets were holding up a trophy for the second straight year. With 6 seniors on the team, each had a role in the win. But no one was surprised. This is a very close-knit team, they’re family.
The win is important, not just in terms of it being a championship, but it allows the squad to carry momentum into tonight’s first round of districts. Obviously the EPC Championship is just the first step towards the team’s ultimate goal (a state title.) So to get back on track and make the sweep veers them back on course. It will be exciting to see just how far this squad can go.
