As the old saying goes “defense wins championships” and so far the Parkland softball team is living proof of that. The Trojans clinched their twenty-first trip to the District XI title game last night with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Easton in extra innings. The bats definitely need to be more consistent and the Trojans need to capitalize with runners in scoring position; but so far the defense has been good enough to earn them the wins. The Desales University bound pitcher Aubree Fritzinger, threw a perfect game through five innings in the District Semi-finals, allowing one base runner. However, she only recorded 1 K, saying a lot about the girls behind her. But that has been the theme; in their 25-0 season the Trojans have only allowed 25 runs, with 11 shutouts.
If the Trojans can win the District championship it would be four straight for the seniors, adding to their already four league championships.
Parkland will face Liberty in the first ever 6A Title game Thursday night at Patriots Park. The Trojans will attempt to win their 15th district title in school history. Expect them to do so, because the Trojans manage to find a way to keep on winning, and they do it in an exciting fashion.
