ONE IN A MELON

At the risk of sounding like every other mom out there, I have to say I CANNOT get over how quick time flies. In the blink of an eye my baby is 1. Having two older children, you would think I'd be used to it by now, but I’m not; and it doesn't get any easier. It seems like yesterday we were in the hospital having her and all of a sudden she's crawling around and developing her own little (adorable) personality.

Brielle “Brie” turned 1 on Saturday and we had a first birthday party for her on Sunday. I found this really cute theme “One In A Melon” (play on words obviously, but it took my mom some time to figure that out) and everything turned out really great. We had watermelon painted mason jars that held the utensils, a One In A Melon cake topper, her smash cake was like a watermelon and I made a bunch of watermelon themed desserts. These cupcakes that I made, really were watermelon-y. All of my ideas came from Pinterest (obviously) and people are so creative, it really amazes me. I used a Watermelon Hi-C packet to give it that bursting flavor. Dyed the cake part green and the icing red and voila! I made watermelon themed rice krispies treats (again with the food dye) & there was a lot more going on, but I won’t bore you with the details!

It was a great time! We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and everyone was in the pool. But, the highlight of course was the cake smash. Brielle did not disappoint, diving right in on the cake! She was a mess by the end, and was not pleased when we cut her off! It’s her birthday and she cried if she wanted to! But, no one will ever beat my son Tommy’s performance when he dove head first into the cake! I have pictures to prove it.

I know many of you are probably thinking she is 1 and has a long way to go, but all the moms out there will understand how this milestone tugs at your heart. Your baby is not so much a baby anymore. Venturing out on their own, becoming independent. It is very tough thing for (me) to accept, but I am just going to try and hold on to these moments.

And I am going to end this on a sappy note. Trace Adkins says it best: “You’re gonna miss this, you’re gonna want this back. You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast, these are some good times so take a good look around – you may not know it now, but you’re gonna miss this.”
