During our quick vacation trip to Washington, D.C. last week, my wife and I headed to Nationals Park to catch an interleague game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals. The rivalry is known as the Beltway Series. Nationals Park will host the Major League All-Star Game in a few weeks.
It was our first visit to Nats Park. We took the Metro to get there. The train was absolutely packed. Once we got to the stadium, I could see why. It's the easiest way to get there. There are parking garages around the ballpark but you don't have to deal with D.C. traffic on the subway. Just lots of fellow riders.
I was surprised about the location of Nationals Park. There really isn't much around the area. And I just assumed that you would be able to see the Washington Monument or the U.S. Capitol building. No on both. There wasn't much to see period. Not like Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. I know space is tight in Washington (and not cheap) but I would think the view would be better. The stadium is beautiful otherwise.
Unfortunately, our stay was short. The game was halted by rain in the fourth inning and didn't resume until 11:00. We were long gone by then. I prefer Camden Yards in Baltimore over Nationals Park. Better ambience and much more to do around the stadium area. But I'm glad I had the chance to visit the D.C. stadium and check it off my list.
