SUMMER MEANS CORNHOLE

As the summer is heating up, and I mean literally as we ride out this heat wave, there are certain summer activities that I can’t contain my excitement over. My top three include outdoor concerts, barbeques, and one of my favorite backyard sports, that is often part of both of these activities, cornhole. My boyfriend and I dominated his family’s cornhole tournament at our Fourth of July barbeque (shameless brag). I just can’t get enough of it. Corn hole is such a simple game when you look at it for what it is. You and a partner take turns throwing a beanbag at a slanted board with a hole, working your way to 21 points before your opponent hits it. Simple, right?

For us amateurs and our backyard BBQ domination, the simplicity works. However, there are actually professional cornhole players, who partake in the American Cornhole League (ACL). Did any of you happen to turn on ESPN and see their live broadcast of the Collegiate Cornhole World Championships? There is so much more to this game than just tossing your beanbag in the opposite direction and hoping for it to hit the board. This sport requires skill and strategy! And I for one, developed a lot more respect for cornhole after watching these collegiate athletes duking it out for the cornhole title.

However, as much as I do love cornhole, I am going to just continue on with my backyard BBQ dominance. I hope you and your families continue to enjoy your Fourth of July celebrations into this weekend, and maybe throw a little backyard corn hole tournament at your cookout!
