Well if I'm being blunt: Thursday’s semifinal game between the 2nd-seeded Southern Lehigh girls and #3 Northwestern Lehigh was pretty awful. It was unfortunate for the Tigers, because I saw them play this year, and that's not the team I saw in the regular season. They just could not get ANYTHING to fall. Despite being a tad unlucky, at the same time the Spartans defense was a brick wall. The girls forced countless turnovers and blocks. In fact, that’s what got the night going. With the game knotted at 4 in the first, the Spartans would force back-to-back turnovers, converting on both to go up 8-4. However, the Spartans struggled from the floor a bit too, (due to this weather that has prevented them from being on the court) but thanks to free throws and the “d” they were in great shape. Knocking down 10 of 14 from the charity stripe the Spartans were able to open up their lead.

Lets break it down, the Tigers only hit one field goal in the half. They were outscored 18-0 in the 2nd quarter and the Spartans were on a 24-1 run to end the first and throughout the 2nd. The tigers would finally get their second bucket, 50 seconds into the 3rd, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as the defense once again shut them down. 55-18 would be the final. Senior Olivia Snyder would lead the way with 25 points.

So what does this mean? The Spartans are going for their 4th straight Colonial League championship on Saturday at 1:00 at Freedom. They will be going up against the #1 seed NDGP, who broke the Spartans 69 game league regular season winning streak. The Spartans are excited to get their revenge and feel they are a different team this time around. They only lost 43-40, which was their only loss this year. The Crusaders finished the regular season undefeated for the 11th time in the 44-year history of the league, and first time in 19 years. They defeated Bangor in their semifinal. It should definitely be an exciting one!
