The DeSales Men’s Basketball team is off to a quick start this season, but really that’s not too much of a surprise.  It seems year in and year out Head Coach Scott Coval (25th season) has his team ready to go. Don’t believe me? How about this stat: since 2002-2003 the Bulldogs have won 306 games, the 16th most among all NCAA Division III schools, and the second most among all teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Last year DeSales season ended with a 78-75 loss in the MAC Freedom Championship game.

This year, the team, who was picked third in the MAC Freedom preseason poll, will obviously be tested (once conference play starts), but so far so good. Despite losing six seniors to graduation, with four of them being top five scorers, the Bulldogs sit with an impressive 6-1 overall record. The wins haven’t been easy either, only one of the wins has been by double digits, forcing the young squad to step up to the challenge.

Senior Connor Jones has taken the leadership role, and leads the team in scoring. Following him are three sophomores, all starters. The Bulldogs open up their MAC Freedom schedule after the holidays, Wednesday January 3 to be exact. The team will face Eastern University, who is picked second in the preseason standings.
That game, I'm sure, will prove to be another great test for this Bulldog team.
