Football season is officially back! Although I must say I believe it's a little early for football, I mean c’mon it’s still August people! Friday night, I headed to Nazareth for their opener against Pocono Mountain East. I think it’s safe to say that most people figured Nazareth would win by a large margin, but I'm not sure how many thought they would have a running clock to start the second half. So let’s go back to the beginning.
Leading up to the game Nazareth Head Coach Tom Falzone wasn't happy that Pocono Mountain East had no game film. NOTHING. And the Cardinals cancelled their scrimmage as well. So the Blue Eagles were left to prepare for a game blindly. Was that a problem? Not even a little bit. The Blue Eagles scored on their opening possession and never looked back. Up 35-0 at the half, the Blue Eagles got scoring from a number of players, and in a number of ways. The Blue Eagles felt really good about their defense, they return a ton of experience and talent, but offensively there were more question marks. I realize the Blue Eagles will need to face tougher tasks, but after Friday night – some of those question marks should be gone. The O-Line was really key in making their offense a success. Third year starter Anthony Harris was on fire in the QB position, finishing 6-9 for 119 yards, a passing TD and a rushing TD. Braden Mehlig got the night started with a 3 yard TD; Logon Grom followed that with another rushing touchdown. But, the Blue Eagles would score through the air as well. Nathan Stefanik, who was easily the player of the game, finished with 2 TDS one for 44 yards offensively & a pick 6. He would also have another pick on the night.
After the first half the game was over. The Eagles would score two more touchdowns in the second half and never allow a point finishing with a final 48-0. Next up for the Blue Eagles is Emmaus. The Green Hornets defeated Allen 62-33 in week one, so this Friday night should be a bit closer of a contest. Watch out for those Blue Eagles though!
