So I know it is still summer, and fall sports are just beginning but I need to talk about basketball for a minute. Everyone knows the name CJ McCollum. If you don’t (and you’re from the Lehigh Valley) you’ve probably been living under a rock for the past 10 years! CJ is by far the most famous basketball player to graduate from Lehigh University. However, there are several others who have left their mark as a Mountain Hawk. And they too are continuing their success in other ways. For the 9th straight season a Lehigh graduating senior has moved on to play professional basketball. Now professional basketball is NOT the same as the NBA. For example: Tim Kempton spent last season in Spain and Israel, and Austin Price played in Sweden, they are just a few of the more recent. But the most recent name to make the list is none other than standout Kahron Ross. Ross just signed a professional contract with PS Karlsruhe Lions in Germany’s ProA league. Ross graduated this past May after easily breaking the Lehigh and Patriot League career assists records with 660. As a senior, he averaged a career-high 13.2 points to go with 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals.
Now, I know the ultimate goal for these players is to one-day play in the NBA like McCollum but right now it is pretty impressive that they are taking their own paths, playing a game they love. It’s exciting to see that their hard work has been paying off in other ways.
