Move In Day at Penn State University

Earlier this month, my younger daughter began her first semester at Penn State University. After the vehicle was unloaded on move in day, my wife and daughter started to put the dorm room together and I had to find a parking space. That led me to a parking lot adjacent to Beaver Stadium and the Bryce Jordan Center. I needed to kill some time because my biggest contribution as an interior decorator is being in the way.

I decided to take a little stroll through the Nittany Lions’ athletic complex. Impressive doesn’t begin to describe it. I have seen games at several of the venues. Soccer at Jeffrey Field. High School softball state championships at Nittany Lion Softball Park. State baseball title games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park (also home to the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League) and several games at Beaver Stadium as well as the Bryce Jordan Center.

One of the newest venues is the Pegula Ice Arena, home to PSU’s hockey teams. The men’s team was number one in the country for a part of last season. I have been told the atmosphere inside Pegula for hockey games is amazing.

Penn State has announced plans for a years-long overhaul to several facilities, including Beaver Stadium. I can only imagine what the campus will look and feel like when these projects are done. I might not like helping to pay for the renovations over the next four years. But I look forward to watching the progress and maybe taking in a few games along the way.
