BASEBALL FILLED WEEKEND

Well this weekend’s weather may have not felt like spring, but it didn't affect all of the baseball activities that the Souderton Area Baseball and Softball league had planned. On Saturday, the league held “Opening Day” ceremonies, which was really cute. They had all of the teams gather at Souderton High School and announced each team as they walked around the track. The kids were waving to the crowd and the winds made it pretty comical. Tommy’s hat kept flying off his head, and the players kept losing the signs they were holding (fortunately no one got hurt!). It was a nice morning that they planned for the kids before their season got underway later that day.

Then, on Sunday, they invited us to go to an IronPigs game giving the kids an opportunity to go on the field prior to the game. Tommy absolutely loved this. They patiently waited on the field and got their picture taken with Ferrous. They made it onto the Jumbotron and then, for the National Anthem, they were able to go stand next to a player! It was another great day for the kids. And Tommy was extra excited because his new “friend” 3rd baseman Mitch Walding also hit a 3-run homer in his first at-bat.

It was a cold day and the rain was on and off, but the IronPigs got a big win! Pitcher Nick Pivetta had a heck of a game, striking out 14 of the 24 batters he saw in 6 innings. Buffalo made it interesting off the bullpen, and were able to tie the game in the 9th, but they left two men on which hurt them. In the home half all it took was a little blooper by Andrew Romine to get the job done for the IronPigs!
