NOTRE DAME GREEN POND HAVING QUITE A FALL SPORTS SEASON

Notre Dame Green Pond has certainly made it’s presence felt in several of the fall sports seasons and we’re now done yet.

Let’s start with the football team which will travel to Palisades Saturday night in a District 3A semifinal. Getting past the undefeated Pirates will be a huge undertaking for the 9-2 Crusaders who won their quarterfinal matchup with North Schuylkill 28-6. They’re still playing!

The boys soccer team won the District 2A championship last week beating another upstart Pen Argyl 3-1 on the strength of Dan Leary’s hat trick. Leary is the nephew of Lehigh University head baseball coach Sean Leary. That is the school’s first ever District title in boys soccer. On the heels of that, NDGP made history again winning a state playoff match for the first time in school history this week besting Meyer 2-1 in OT with Luke Fleissner this time the hero scoring the game winning goal. They’re now 20-4.

Finally, in girls tennis, junior Logan Lencheski captured the Colonial League singles title and teamed up with Emma Anmolsingh to reach the 2A semifinals in the PIAA doubles championships. They lost in 3 sets then lost in the consolation match in 3 sets but medaled for finishing 4th.

Tennis is over but the football team and the boys soccer team are still alive this weekend hoping to extend their seasons. Not too shabby!
