DESALES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOPES TO PICK UP RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF

The DeSales University women’s basketball team is coming off of quite a season from a year ago. The Bulldogs posted a 20-7 overall record, which earned them a trip to the conference championship game (where they would fall short) as well as an at large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The 20 wins marked the third time in the last four years that the Bulldogs have won 20 or more games in a season.

This year the Lady Bulldogs have their sites set on a championship once again, and why not? The team returns 2 of its top 3 scorers from a year ago in junior Leandra Sterner and junior Morgan Birmelin. Kaitlin Kelly, who led the team with 44 made triples last year, Bridget Walsh and Molly Jansco, will surround them. The team has just three seniors on the roster, but don’t let that fool you – this is an experienced team.

The MAC Freedom also expects the Bulldogs to be pretty good, picking them second in the preseason poll. The Bulldogs do not open their conference schedule until January 3, but so far the team sits at 3-1 and won the first tournament they participated in.

Head Coach Fred Richter is now in his 28th season and has never missed the MAC Freedom postseason. His knowledge of the game and the way he understands every team in their own unique way are just two of the many reasons he has been so successful.
