As I sat down this Memorial Day weekend to watch the 101st Indianapolis 500, I started to think about my bucket list of sporting events. My interest in the Indy 500 goes back to my childhood when I used to watch the race with my grandfather every year. We always rooted for Mario Andretti and all the Penske drivers, especially Rick Mears. The “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” is the only race I’ll watch. I don’t have any interest in NASCAR or any other racing event.
I’ve checked a few things off my list: World Series game, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, the baseball, basketball and football halls of fame, the Palestra, NCAA basketball tournament games and Madison Square Garden. But there are plenty more places I would like to visit.
Here a few things I would eventually like to witness in person:
1. Wrigley Field
2. The Indianapolis 500
3. A Notre Dame football game in South Bend (not even an Irish fan!)
4. The Ryder Cup
5. Stanley Cup Final game
6. A Duke game at Cameron Indoor Stadium (not a Blue Devils fan either)
7. One of the Triple Crown horse races (preferably the Kentucky Derby)
There are plenty more but these rank at the top of the list. Hopefully I can check a few off in the very near future. What about you? What is on your sports bucket list? Let me know. I may have to add a few more to my list.
