Behind every great team, is a dedicated coach who puts in countless number of hours behind the scenes. Watching game tape, drawing up plays, recruiting, figuring out the best way they can watch their players succeed. It seems like Lehigh has been pretty fortunate as of late, when it comes to finding coaches who not only work hard, but also get results.
And sometimes after watching their team bask in the glory, it is their turn to be recognized. Take Jill Redfern for instance. Redfern just completed her ninth season as the Lehigh Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach. And while the Mountain Hawks suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Patriot League Semi-finals, Redfern is working with some pretty impressive numbers:
- The Mountain Hawks have reached double-figure wins in five of her nine seasons.
- In 2010 and 2011 the Mountain Hawks took the PL regular season honors.
- In Redfern’s nine-year tenure, Lehigh has appeared in the Patriot League Tournament seven times.
- They have also posted a 25-11 record over the past two years, which ties the school record for the third most wins over a two-year stretch.
That…. has rewarded her with an induction into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame come September. The Hall of Fame was established in 1957 to honor the dedicated men and women who also lead by example outside of Lacrosse.
So to say that Refern has found her home at Lehigh may be a given. She has certainly brought success, along with a lot of smiles from her players. And now it’s her turn to smile for her own achievement
