Hockey season is still a few months away but the fourth season of the PPL Center should bring fans a lot of exciting action. Not only will the Lehigh Valley Phantoms take to the ice for 38 regular season home games, but a men’s hockey NCAA regional and a Philadelphia Flyers preseason game will also be coming to downtown Allentown.

The Flyers and Phantoms announced during a June 14th press conference at the arena that the Orange and Black will host the New York Islanders at PPL Center Wednesday, September 20 at 7:05 PM. It will mark the third straight season that Philadelphia will play a preseason game at the home of its AHL affiliate.

Both Phantoms co-owner/governor Jim Brooks and PPL Center general manager Gunnar Fox praised the support of the Lehigh Valley community for making another Flyers game possible. Flyers President Paul Holmgren was also in attendance. He said fans can expect as many as 10 members of the Flyers to play in the game plus many more players who will be assigned to the Phantoms. Holmgren also mentioned that he feels the Flyers-Phantoms affiliation has exceeded expectations in many areas.

Tickets for the Flyers-Islanders game are on sale online at pplcenter.com, by phone at (610) 347 TIXX (8499) or in person at the arena box office. For Flyers fans who can’t get to Philly to see their favorite team play, this is a great way to catch some NHL action.
