While the High School Football season is coming to a close, the basketball season is right around the corner. The 2017-18 campaign will tip off a week from tonight on December 8, with the full slate of East Penn Conference and Colonial League games taking center stage the following week.

Who will be the teams to beat and who will be the sleepers? What player or players will become 1,000 point scorers and what players will lead their team to a championship? All questions that will be answered over the next three months, but first a couple of footnotes.

Last year we witnessed a sold out crowd at PPL Center for the District XI 6A Semifinals, which featured not only great matchups but great players that had terrific careers at their schools. Talek Williams and Tyrese Martin at Allen, David and Matt Kachelries at Emmaus, Sam Iorio of Parkland and Jalen Vaughns from Pocono Mountain West.

Doug Snyder of Allen recorded career win number 400 while Brad Pensyl of Pocono Mountain West recorded his 300th win at West to go along with 524 overall. Pensyl also saw his Panthers capture the District XI 6A Championship in his final season before retiring.

Team Championships went to Allen who won the EPC Championship while Bangor took home Colonial League honors. Districts saw titles won by Notre Dame(3A), Bethlehem Catholic(4A), East Stroudsburg North(5A) and as mentioned Pocono Mountain West(6A).

That was all in the past as now we look to the future and see what new faces will capture the spotlight and what teams will bring home the championship banners. Exciting times coming with the basketball season on the horizon.
