After a busy summer of non-stop basketball action, Ryan Young heads into his senior season at Bethlehem Catholic with his college decision now behind him. The 6’10” power forward has given a verbal commitment to Northwestern University and is excited to become a Wildcat.
Young had 30 offers in total, including a lot of Ivy, Patriot, Colonial and Atlantic 10 schools. But that’s not all; as he received interest from Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame, before receiving back to back offers by Maryland and Northwestern this week.
Before deciding on the Wildcats, Young also considered the Terrapins along with Richmond, George Washington, Princeton, William and Mary and St. Joe’s.
During his junior season, Young averaged a double-double for Bethlehem Catholic but also was a shot block specialist. He is glad to have his decision complete as he can now concentrate on his final season on the hardwood under head coach Ray Barbosa.
Young will then play for Chris Collins for the next four years and knows he made the right decision. “The main reason I chose Northwestern was the balance between top level academics and top level basketball. I think they excel in both categories and that's the reason I chose them. The coaching staff is there for the long haul and really care about their guys.”
Before the winter basketball season gets here, Young will look to excel on the links, as he is a member of the Golden Hawks Golf team.
Below is a list of all his offers:
Lafayette Lehigh Mt St Mary's
Old Dominion Towson Delaware
New Hampshire Columbia Yale
