For many, this week is one they most look forward to — it’s Musikfest! You may have noticed we take a temporary break from Lehigh Valley Sports Scene for the week, to bring our viewers over 160 hours of Musikfest coverage from Bethlehem. (Don’t worry, we’ve still got you covered with live IronPigs baseball action too!)
It’s Day 10 of the festival and I figured I’d reflect back on some of the fun we’ve had. I’ve spent most of the week at Festplatz, the main stage on the north side of the festival. It’s a great variety of music…from polka to rock, funk, oldies, etc… Even though country is my favorite, I always use Musikfest as a chance to explore and enjoy all genres — which is what the ‘fest is all about. I also satisfied my tastebuds with plenty of festival food. At the top of my list was Chick’n Cone. I did a story with them two years back when the food truck first arrived at Musikfest and I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the kickin’ ranch chicken just as much this time!
A cool new addition to this year’s festival is the Martin Guitar Stage at Yuengling Yagerplatz where, at different times throughout the day, Musikfest-goers can pick up a Martin guitar and perform. Our own TV2 Sports videographer Ron Boyer took advantage of the opportunity, showing his singer/songwriter skills on Wednesday! (There’s a quick snippet on our Twitter page if you want to check it out at @TV2_Sports). There are also scheduled performances from some pretty awesome artists at Lagerplatz — Erin Kelly (Allentown), Pentley Holmes (Phillipsburg), Almond and Olive (Chicago), and Brian Fitzy (Phladelphia) are among the musicians I’ve had a chance to enjoy — all impressive.
Interviewing different members of bands or individual artists has been a blast, getting to know their stories and how they found their way here to Musikfest. The only thing they all have in common is that they want to come back again next year (duh!). We hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage throughout the week, a big kudos to our TV2 crew that has been working very long hours to bring you exclusive coverage. And thanks to the ArtsQuest staff and volunteers for hosting a great festival!
Happy ‘Festing to all! #tv2sikfest
